• Welcome to eighth grade English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR).

This year, we will focus on reading and writing skills. For reading, students will read short selections of fiction, poetry, drama, and non-fiction and create connections to other literary pieces and "real-life" experiences. They will then use those connections in their writing. In addition, students will focus on the following in their writing: word choice, sentence structure, voice, and organization, while also learning to edit and revise their own work for usage, spelling, and mechanics. It's going to be a great year.  I can't wait to meet each of you and get to know you!

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.

    Supply List

Blue/black pens or pencils (to complete everyday assignments)

Grading/editing and revising pens (any color except blue/black – most students seem to choose red, green, or purple)

    Hi-lighters – multiple colors

Ear buds - will be used in multiple classes due to online textbooks

    Elmer's Glue

    1 Composition Notebook - Not a spiral

    Index Cards - 3x5, lined

*You do not need a binder just for this class, but you do need to have a section/divider for ELA in your multi-class binder! I highly suggest using an expanding file case like the ones pictured below. They take up less room in your backpacks, and then you don't have to worry about papers being hole-punched.

    Expanding file case

I also highly recommend getting a pencil case/bag to ensure you have your basic supplies here every day and do not have to search the bottom of your backpack.

More and more students have vocalized wishing they had a wireless mouse. This may be something to consider.

Throughout the year, I will always gladly accept extra boxes of tissues!
