LHS LIBRARY POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Library Access: We have an open-door policy. Students are welcome to come in before school, after school, and during both lunches. Lunches are during the Academic day, and will therefore only be open for Acadmeic purposes (i.e. quiet homework and reading purposes). During classes, students can come in as long as they have a pass from their teachers (EXCEPT for Academic Period--see below). Students can renew, return, and get new books, use computers, print, read, study, and use our space for collaborative projects.
Student Expectations:
- Arrive with a purpose
- No outside food or drink
- No PDA
- No disruptive behavior
- Clean up after yourselves
- If you move furniture, please return it to its original place
- Treat others with respect and kindness.
Students behaving inappropriately before or after school will be asked to leave, and multiple infractions could result in a student being banned from the library unless he is with his classroom teacher.
Student Sign-In Policy: Between the 1st period and 9th period bells, all students are required to sign in unless they are with their classroom teacher.
Circulation Policy: Students may check out up to five books at a time, and keep them for three weeks. Students may renew books themselves by signing in to their DestinyQuest accounts, or in the library as long as they have the books with them.
Overdue Notices & Late Fees: Students will receive late notices in their English classes. A fine of $.05 per item per day past due will be assessed. Fines are not assessed over weekends or student holidays. All fines must be paid before students graduate.
Extremely Late Books: Due to the growing number of students who are keeping books for months at a time, we’re instituting the following new policy. Books that are new, or part of a series, or are in high demand will be marked lost after 45 days past due. At that point, you will be charged and responsible for paying the replacement cost of that book.
Lost or Damaged Books: We are ALL human, and we are all capable of losing books. We promise you will not be in trouble, just please inform us ASAP if you lose a book so that we can order a replacement copy and stop assessing late fees against your account. While you will be responsible for replacement costs, we will work with you and your budget.
Academic Period: ONLY students with a pass from the library may come to the library during Academic period. In order to keep our numbers manageable, students with passes from teachers will be sent back to class.
